Pro Tools: Exporting Audio For Mixing

Exporting Processed Audio (Wet)

  1. Select Tracks for Export:

    • Highlight the audio tracks or select the entire session by double-clicking the timeline or using Command + A (Mac) / Ctrl + A (Windows).

  2. Bounce to Disk:

    • Go to File > Bounce to > Disk.

    • Set Source to your output (e.g., stereo out), choose WAV as your format, and match the bit depth/sample rate (typically 24-bit/44.1kHz or higher).

    • Click Bounce, and name the file something like TrackName_Processed.wav.

Exporting Unprocessed Audio (Dry)

  1. Bypass Plugins:

    • Disable all effects by holding Option (Mac) / Alt (Windows) and clicking the insert to bypass all plugins.

  2. Consolidate Audio:

    • Select the entire track and use Edit > Consolidate Clip to merge all audio regions into one continuous file.

  3. Export Clips as Files:

    • Highlight the tracks, go to File > Export > Clips as Files, and choose the appropriate settings. Export as WAV and match the bit depth and sample rate to the project settings.

Logic Pro X: Exporting Audio For Mixing

Exporting Processed Audio (Wet)

Select All Tracks:
Ensure all tracks are selected by pressing Command + A and set the cycle range to cover the entire project.

Export All Tracks:
Go to File > Export > All Tracks as Audio Files.

In the export window:

  • Select "Include Effects" to retain processing.

  • Ensure automation is included to preserve volume, panning, and other mix changes.

  • Turn off "Normalise" to prevent unintended level adjustments.

  • Export in WAV at 24-bit/44.1kHz or higher.

  • Name the files clearly with "processed" in the title.

Exporting Unprocessed Audio (Dry)

Bypass Effects:
Disable all effects by holding Option and clicking each insert to bypass the plugins.

Export All Tracks:
Use the same steps as above: File > Export > All Tracks as Audio Files, but this time:

  • Uncheck "Include Effects."

  • Ensure automation is included.

  • Turn off "Normalise."

  • Save the files as WAV with clear naming like TrackName_Unprocessed.wav.

Ableton Live: Exporting Processed and Unprocessed Audio

Exporting Processed Audio (Wet)

  1. Select the Entire Project:

    • Ensure the entire project is selected by highlighting the timeline or setting the loop bracket.

  2. Export Audio:

    • Go to File > Export Audio/Video.

    • In the export window, choose Master as the render source (with effects applied).

    • Select WAV, set the sample rate and bit depth (24-bit, 44.1kHz or higher), and export.

    • Name the file something like TrackName_Processed.wav.

Exporting Unprocessed Audio (Dry)

  1. Bypass Effects:

    • Turn off all effects by disabling each plugin on the individual tracks.

  2. Export Audio:

    • Repeat the steps above, but this time, set the render source to Individual Tracks.

    • Export as WAV with proper file naming (TrackName_Unprocessed.wav).

FL Studio: Exporting Processed and Unprocessed Audio

Exporting Processed Audio (Wet)

  1. Select the Entire Project:

    • Set the time range by clicking and dragging on the playlist, covering the entire project.

  2. Export:

    • Go to File > Export > WAV File.

    • In the export window, select the output format as WAV and ensure all effects are enabled.

    • Export the track and name it TrackName_Processed.wav.

Exporting Unprocessed Audio (Dry)

  1. Disable Effects:

    • In the mixer, disable all the effects on each track by unchecking the insert effects.

  2. Export:

    • Follow the same export process: File > Export > WAV File.

    • Make sure no effects are applied, and export the tracks with clear naming like TrackName_Unprocessed.wav.

Cubase: Exporting Processed and Unprocessed Audio

Exporting Processed Audio (Wet)

  1. Select the Full Range:

    • Select all the audio in the timeline.

  2. Audio Mixdown:

    • Go to File > Export > Audio Mixdown.

    • In the export settings, choose WAV and check the Stereo Out to export the processed version.

    • Name the files with "processed" (e.g., TrackName_Processed.wav).

Exporting Unprocessed Audio (Dry)

  1. Bypass Effects:

    • Go to each track’s insert section and disable the plugins.

  2. Audio Mixdown:

    • Repeat the steps for exporting, but this time make sure to export Individual Tracks without effects.

    • Export in WAV format and label the files like TrackName_Unprocessed.wav.

Studio One: Exporting Processed and Unprocessed Audio

Exporting Processed Audio (Wet)

  1. Select All Tracks:

    • Highlight the tracks or set a range that covers the entire project.

  2. Export Stems:

    • Go to Song > Export Stems.

    • In the export window, check Channels with Effects and export as WAV at 24-bit/44.1kHz or higher.

    • Name the files appropriately (TrackName_Processed.wav).

Exporting Unprocessed Audio (Dry)

  1. Bypass Effects:

    • Open the mixer and disable all plugins by clicking the bypass buttons on each channel strip.

  2. Export Stems:

    • Repeat the Export Stems process, but this time, uncheck the effects option.

    • Export as WAV and label the files like TrackName_Unprocessed.wav.
